Every Memorial Day weekend we head to Salem for the parade and festivities! The girls have been in the kiddie parade since Summer was 2 months old! She was pushed in a stroller, then rode a bike. Then we got fancy when Nana got them a wagon! Now there's not enough room for all our girls, so Summer decided to Hula Hoop! She did a GREAT job! We decorate our "float" and the girls throw candy out to the spectators! They think it is sooo cool! One thing that the girls have gotten used to is Aunt Annie (from Michigan) buying them ice cream after the parade! Well Aunt Annie had to come a week late this year so she wasn't there for the parade! Summer just had to give her a call about this dilemma! After the kiddie parade they have there real parade and throw LOTS of candy! The girls come prepared with bags. They have plenty of great-aunts and uncles that help them pick up as much candy as they can hold! Nice! It's a fun tradition and a great way to celebrate the beginning of the summer season!
After the parade, we headed out to the State Line and Salem Cemeteries to decorate the graves of all of my grandparents and some aunts and uncles. This is a neat tradition that my girls enjoy. They like looking at all the pretty flowers and hearing a few stories about the good ol' days! After we got back to the farm we had a YUMMY barbecue! It's always fun to be with family! We can't wait 'till the rest of the family gets here on Friday!
